Documentary collection
This way of payment is used in international practice by customers who have already established business relations in which partners trust each other.
While effectuating a collection the exporting customer delivers goods and presents documents to the bank, after which the bank sends the documents to the buyer’s bank via its own channels. The liability of payment within the framework of the collection belongs to the importer.
On receiving the documents, the buyer’s bank informs the customer of the conditions on which he /she may receive the documents, such as:
- acknowledgement of liability (the payment will be effectuated on a certain day);
- effectuation of payment (the payment will be effectuated soon);
- other conditions within the framework of the instructions indicated in the collection.
Meeting the conditions regarding acknowledgement of liability / payment / other conditions, the buyer’s bank returns the documents to the customer, so that he /she could use them for receiving the goods. Thus the exporter has the guarantee that the importer receives the documents with the help of which he / she might be able to collect the goods only after they are paid for of the liability of payment is acknowledged.
Only after performing one of conditions above the buyer can become the proprietor of the goods.
Using this type of transactions the seller has the guarantee that the buyer will receive the goods only after performing the conditions of the collection.
